I Love You for So Many Reasons ... by Susan Polis Schutz

Before I met you
I spent a lot of time
meeting all kinds of people
I had a lot of fun
and learned a lot
Though each person I met
had great characteristics
something was missing

No one person
had all the qualities that
I had hoped a person could have
someone whose every action
and thought I could respect
someone who was very intelligent
yet could also be fun-loving
someone who was sensitive,
yet virile
exciting and sensuous
someone who knew what they wanted
out of life
a beautiful person inside and out

I could not find a person like this
until I met you
I love you

FOR ME TO LOVE YOU

Between the past that was,
And the future that is to be.
You are my living present,
You are mine, here and now,
And I am your's.

The more I gaze at you,
The more I understand you.
I see a dream in your eyes,
Reach out for it, because it is closer than you think.
Only you can make that dream come true,
Because, you are stronger than you think.

I don't have to go away from you to miss you,
I don't have to see you to think of you,
I don't have to hold you to want you,
I don't have to be in your arms to need you.

But all that I have to know is that,
You love me, For me to love you!!

MEMORIES

It seems like a dream,
Or, is it just a thought!
You seem close, but,
I know you are not!
I close my eyes and I see you there,
So far you are, I just can't bear!
The feeling that I had will never die,
Because I loved you once and you know it wasn't a lie!!!

LIVING LOVE

Why is my eye today,
Filled with a fear?
I wrote so many things,
For you, my dear,
Duping me with every step,
With a very soothing smile.
You hurt me always,
And you made me cry.
Why did you create love,
Only in your eye?
With questions unanswered?
Yet my love for you will never die.....

A Letter to YOU

I have a choice of writing you a letter,
Or writing a poem.
I have decided to do both.

After all, what is a poem,
But a letter in a bottle floated out to sea.
A vague hope that someone, somewhere,
Between laughter and sleep,
Will pause and pick it up and read.

Of my longings, hopes, silence, despairs,
Dreams, deaths, waiting, lovings.
Sifting through the words,
Blowing husks and dust away,
They'll see a silkworm spinning,
Strings around its soul.

Maybe my love wishes to be a silkworm,
Painfully oozing the finest threads,
That one day on a singing loom will make,
A flowing sheet, blue as morning
Gold as the heart of sunflower,
Green as the juices of grass.
When it clings to your skin,
Remember my touch.

My love is an aftermath of a dark dream,
The first toddy from a palm,
Like an athlete running into blankness,
Shuddering and gasping,
A traveler into the dark night,
No stars to guide his way,
Only the certitude of his own senses.

To love is to die
Let the wind scatter me, where it will,
Let the rain beat down, dissolve my bones.
Vanish me, vanish me, vanish me....
Vanish all of me, all that is me, all that is me....

No Intimacy Please

I do fear intimacy,
Why?
Because I don't often rise to occasions,
I quarrel very easily,
I expect more.

i may neglect an abuse,
From a stranger or mad.
But I can't bear,
A look down from my friends.
A difference in tone even,
Worries me greatly.

Better being superficial,
I limit my circles,
So NO INTIMACY PLEASE!!

How Wrong Was I

I thought that you would understand,
That I too belong to this very land.

I thought that when I was feeling blue,
All I had to do, is turn to you.

I thought that you make my hurt feel lighter,
And assure me, that the future is a lot brighter.

I thought that with you by my side,
I could cross any sea, ocean or tide.

I thought that you were above all those fishes in the sea,
And you for one understood me.

But, how wrong was I to make so much,
Of something that meant nothing more than a healing touch!
